Summary

To pinpoint the candidates that will be a perfect fit for your organization’s marketing requirements, you can put these marketing interview questions to them.

Full Content

No organization can afford to neglect or overlook their marketing department if they want to stay afloat on a long-term basis. Hiring marketing personnel is, therefore, one of the more important recruiting decisions you will take. These are the people that will take charge of publicizing your products and services, leading to consumer attention and business profits. You need to make sure of their competence when you interview them.

Asking them some common and not-so-common marketing interview questions can shed light on their thinking processes and give you an inkling of ho

w they might perform should you employ them.

Marketing Interview Questions You Need to Ask

•  Of all possible career choices, what made you choose marketing?

•  How long have you worked in marketing?

•  What made you apply for a marketing position with us?

•  Do you enjoy working in a team environment?

•  What do you know about our organization and our products and services?

•  What is your opinion about some of our previous marketing campaigns? If you were involved in them, what would you do differently?

•  Have you ever managed a marketing campaign? Was it successful? If so, what are the steps you took and what are the things you considered to make it a success?

•  What are your long-term goals? Do you think you will still be in marketing five years from now?

•  Can you tell us the difference between traditional marketing and digital marketing? Which do you think is more effective, and why?

•  What is your opinion of social media marketing? Do you think it is still as effective as it used to be? What kind of experience have you had with it?

•  Do you keep up with marketing trends? Tell us about a few that are currently popular. Do you think they will still be trending a few years hence?

•  What do you think will be the next hot marketing trend?

Pick the Right Candidates with These Marketing Interview Questions

The purpose of these questions is to put the candidates at ease and facilitate a relaxed two-way conversation. You want to gauge how articulate they are – a necessary skill for marketers – and how well-informed and amenable to learning they are. Marketing is an ever-expanding field, and only someone that is willing to pick up new skills and adapt to new situations can reasonably expect to have a long-term career here. Moreover, to make the interview and subsequent hiring worthwhile, you do want people who intend to stick around for the long haul.

You also want people who can roll with setbacks and spring back to work around them with newer strategies. The marketers that succeed do so because they never let themselves get thwarted. If one thing doesn’t work out, they try another. They take well-thought-out risks.

Let’s face it. Marketing is a risky endeavor. There is no guarantee of success. Are the candidates up to handling this? If so, they are rational and tough-minded people. You should consider hiring them. They will be an asset.
