Most Common Types of Fire Fighting Systems By Lisa Hardley

Summary

An essential part of building a security system is the fire fighting system and neglecting to install it may lead to fatal consequences. There is a wide range of fire fighting system available in the market. Some of those fire fighting systems are listed below with a brief explanation.

Full Content

Fire Extinguisher

It is an active fire protection device filled mostly with compressed carbon dioxide. It is used to avoid small fire. The fire extinguisher must be identified. Extinguishers are color coded according to their agent. Automatic gaseous fire suppression system This kind of fire suppressor uses a gaseous agent to combat the fire. The clean agents (gases that are a non supporter of combustion) are kept protected in cylinders. There is a network of pipes. Whenever the device

detects smoke, it automatically comes into action.

Wet Pipe Systems

It is the most widely used and cost efficient system of fire protection.it is filled with water and whenever the system detects smokes it automatically pours water to prevent the fire from spreading.

Pre-Action Systems

Pre-action fire protection systems are filled with air and require two triggers to activate, to prevent accidental or unnecessary sprinklings in case of false alarms. Once the smoke is detected, it allows water to pass through and downpour where the fire is detected.

Dry Pipe Systems

Dry pipe systems use pressurized air; it empties out of the pipe before water escapes. These types of fire protection systems are ideal for buildings with low temperatures since there is no risk of the pipes freezing; the downside, there is a deal of around one minute between the detection of smoke and system to get into action.

Deluge Systems

This type of system is found in large industrial parks and factories. Its words like wet pipe system but going by the name it works on a flat surface, it floods the whole surface of the surrounding area to avoid the loss of industrial property.

Fire Hose Reels

Fire hose reels are to be used by occupants as a “first attack” fire fighting measure. There may be instances where they can be used by firefighters too. Now a question arises how a fire hose reels work. Its mechanism is quite simple. When stowing a fire hose reel, its nozzle end has to be attached to the hose reel valve, then the hose reel valve should be closed, and the nozzle has to be opened to relieve any pressure in the wound hose, and then close the nozzle.

Fire Hydrant Systems

Fire hydrant systems are installed in buildings to help firefighters quickly attack the fire. Essentially, a hydrant system is a water reticulation system used to transport water to limit the amount of hose that firefighters have to lay, thus speeding up the fire fighting process. Fire hydrants are for the sole use of trained firefighters (which includes factory fire fighting teams). The extremely high water pressure may cause serious injuries to untrained persons if they attempt to operate the equipment connected to such installations. Fire hydrant systems sometimes include ancillary parts essential to their effective operation such as pumps, tanks, and fire service booster connections. These systems have an intricate designing and need to be taken care of from time to time.
