Traffic is the key making money online, and recurring traffic is the key to longevity in the online world. Without the two things working together any online promotion will fail. Getting the two to coincide is one of the quests that marketing talent works on daily. With recent changes to the way Internet users treat the web, it’s interesting to see how agents are pushing against the grain and promoting through retargeting campaigns.

Understanding the way these works is simple. It’s best explained in terms of a revolving door of advertising. If you can imagine what a revolving
door does, pushing a person inside a building and right back out again, only to bring them back in, that’s the way this type of marketing works. The way it works best is that it makes the unfamiliar, familiar. The #1 reason why web users purchase from certain stores is not due to brand loyalty, but rather familiarity. In fact, studies have recently shown that web users would rather shop at a familiar store that has a higher price for the item they are looking for then to go to a new website and purchase the same thing for a lower cost! This might sound astonishing, but it’s this type of mentality that marketing agents are fighting against, and that’s the key to retargeting campaigns.

3 Ways To Help Generate Conversions Through Retargeting Campaigns

1. Ad Number One – The first ad a person sees gets the user to your website. They are on the site, they are reading, and they aren’t interested. They leave and you normally would have an empty hit. This happens often, and even sites with hundreds of thousands of websites see this trend.

2. Ad Number Two – The second ad a user sees is on another site utilizing your ad network, and your ad shows up. They get curious and click your ad, showing up at the same site they left earlier. This time they are familiar with your information and they give the call to action a second thought. They don’t buy, and once again they leave your site.

3. Ad Number Three – At this point the end user might not be looking for the same thing, but your ad comes around in a different area, retargeting them to your site. At this point your information is vastly familiar and they purchase something, giving you a new customer or new lead.

The above example is just one way retargeting campaigns work. If that sounds too simple, imagine multiply the numbers to hundreds or thousands of users. If you are getting thousands of people leaving your site, imagine the hit count when they come back two times, or three times! Who couldn’t use three times the amount of traffic, and this repeat traffic can only elevate sales over time. It’s a proven fact that people shop in familiar locations, and if they continually hit your site, web users are going to purchase, it’s just too hard to resist online.
